Presentation Highlights Awareness of Health Benefits, Home Performance Retrofits
On March 6, 2019 – Joe Cullen of HPC collaborated with home performance providers and state agency leaders on a presentation at the Keystone Energy Efficiency Alliance’s Health Care Industry Forum: Positive Healthcare Outcomes for Home Performance Prescriptions & Business Models for Collaboration.
The HPC organized panel discussed two innovative models of capturing the value of improved indoor air quality and healthier living conditions created by residential energy efficiency upgrades. Melanie Paskevich of the Vermont Heat Squad highlighted their collaboration with the Rutland, VT Regional Medical Center that serves asthma patients upon their departure from the hospital. Mishel Filisha, a Project Director at NYSERDA described the $10 million NY Healthy Homes Value-Based Payment (VBP) Pilot – in which Medicaid providers will seek to improve patient care through home retrofits.
Both projects rely upon home performance contractors to improve the health of patients with a “prescription” for a health home retrofit. Rounding out the panel, Jeaneen A. Zappa, Executive Director of CCI described the results achieved through several “healthy home” initiatives in Pittsburgh, PA. The HPC panel presentation at KEEA highlighted the growing awareness of the health benefits associated with home performance retrofits and new business models designed to capture those benefits.
