Turning Our Attention to the City of Brotherly Love
Putting a national conference to bed is a bitter sweet process, especially when the event succeeds to the degree that the 2017 National Home Performance Conference did. There is so much effort that goes into a national event, not only by staff but volunteers as well, that when it’s over you are happy to exhale, but kind of sad that it it’s over. Strange, but true.
Here at HPC, our conference team has spent the last month evaluating how we performed in Nashville and looking at ways to improve our offerings going forward. This last month was a much needed “extra month” in our calendar year, with 13 months between national conferences.
But enough about us! Our industry’s next national gathering will be Philadelphia, April 23-26, 2018. Judging from the feedback we have received from you over the years, we think you are going to be happy about the late April dates. I also think you are going to enjoy the host hotel, the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.
We will be right in Center City, a stone’s throw from Philadelphia’s iconic City Hall and just a 15 minute walk from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Perhaps more importantly (knowing our audience), the hotel is surrounded by world class restaurants, museums, and a vibrant nightlife scene as we again; bring our conference to the heart of town.
I should also note that the hotel is right across the street from the Reading Terminal Market- an amazing assembly of local restaurants, butchers, dessert stops, coffee roasters, and farms. It is also home to what is, in my humble opinion, the world’s best sandwich- the DiNic’s Roast Pork (get it with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone). The cheesesteak gets all the hype, but the roast pork sandwich is truly where it’s at!
One of the many reasons that we chose Philly is convenience. As America’s fifth largest city, Philadelphia is a two-hour flight for half of the US population and 40% of us live within a four hour drive. The Marriott is also easy to reach via train. Arriving at the 30th Street Station on Amtrak, you just need to transfer to a SEPTA train (the local transit system) and you will arrive right at the hotel’s doorstep.
Our southern tour over the last three years was amazing and we will be back soon enough, but I am excited to be bringing the conference back to our home state of Pennsylvania, where it all began, after a 10 year hiatus. We are so excited to come back to Philly for the first time since 1994.
Philadelphia is an amazing city with an undeniable energy, and that is not easy for a guy from Pittsburgh to say. You’re going to love it! In the meantime, you can submit your session proposals until Friday, August 11, 2017, midnight PT – check out our website for all the details! Get in as an exhibitor before June 1 and save $232!
